IDPP Presents at AICHR Advanced Training Course

AICHR Conference Group PhotoIDPP Regional Research Coordinator Mr. Pong Cruz was invited to present about the rights of persons with disabilities at the six-day Advanced Training Course for Trainers for the General Course on Human Rights held from 13-18 December 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand. The event was organized by the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), of which IDPP faculty member Dr. Sriprapha Petcharamesree is the Thai Representative. Dr. Sriprapha joined Mr. Pong during his presentation on 17 December 2012.

The training course was one of the key priority programs of 2012 for AICHR, and was designed for potential trainers in human rights to build capacity in becoming human rights educators in their own countries. Participants included government officers, staff of human rights institutions, and academics from across the ASEAN region.

During his presentation, Mr. Cruz discussed some of the challenges that persons with disabilities face in their everyday lives, as well as some of the work that is being done to create a more inclusive ASEAN society. Mr. Cruz provided an overview of the IDPP and CIDP Master’s program as a specific example of this work, and how the IDPP is striving to build a cadre of disability policy leaders by facilitating inclusive teaching and learning opportunities.
