IDPP Presents at C-AHEAD Conference
IDPP Director of Technology Mr. Clyde White, Jr. and Program Coordinator for Collaborative Research and Education Ms. Erica Seng gave a presentation on the work, experiences, and successes of the IDPP at the Association for Higher Education and Disability (C-AHEAD)’s Accessibility, Inclusion, and Compliance in Higher Education conference on 8 June 2012 at the Graduate Center of Loyola University Maryland. Research Assistant Mr. Brian McNeilly also participated in the conference.
The IDPP presented with Mr. Kamran Rasul, Assistive Technology Specialist, of the American University Assistive Technology Lab at the Successes and Challenges of Cyberlearning Environments break out session.
The presentation not only included an explanation of the research questions that framed the IDPP, but also touched on the lessons learned from implementing the Master’s in Comparative and International Disability Policy (CIDP) program, the world's first virtual Master's degree in disability policy.
The one-day conference featured other breakout sessions that focused predominantly on the design and implementation of accessible education, including Disability as Diversity and the Role of Adaptive Technology; Creating Accessible Course Materials; “Don't Forget About Us!” Military Student Perspectives on Best Practices for a Successful Transition to College; OCR Case Resolution Approaches & Recent Case Resolutions; andPartnering with State VR Agencies to Improve Student Access to Adaptive Technology and Resources.
Participants also gained insight from real-world practitioners of accessible education, including the President of C-AHEAD, Ms. Jean Ashmore, and Mr. Howard Kallen of the U.S. Department of Education.
The conference was held from 9:30a.m. - 3:30p.m. (EST).
