IDPP Commemorates 2013 Int'l Day of Persons with Disabilities
The IDPP celebrated the 2013 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (#IDPD) on 3 December with a virtual roundtable discussion entitled “Year in Review: Key Highlights in International Disability” at 9:00am US EST. The discussion offered a recap of prominent moments in the global disability community this past year, as well as key events that IDPP offered or participated in within the international disability space. The IDPD is held annually each 3 December and urges inclusion, organizing, celebrating and taking action toward an inclusive society for all persons with disabilities. This year’s IDPD theme is “Break Barriers, Open Doors: for an inclusive society and development for all.”
Notable topics highlighted in the IDPP roundtable discussion included the 6th Conference of States Parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD); the UN General Assembly High Level Meeting on Disability and Development for an inclusive post-2015 development agenda; and the United States Senate hearings to ratify the CRPD.
The roundtable also reviewed the IDPP’s participation at and outcomes of each of these events, as well as participation at other international disability events, including the 2013 M-Enabling Summit; the University of Washington International Symposium on Disability, Technology and Rehabilitation; and being honored with induction into the Blackboard Collaborate Hall of Fame.
