IDPP Exec. Director Co-Organizes, Presents at 2013 ICTD Workshop

2013 ICTD Conference (logo) IDPP/COTELCO Executive Director Dr. Derrick Cogburn co-organized and presented at an Accessible Technology Workshop on 10 December 2013 from 7:00-10:00AM US EST (2:00PM to 5:30PM SAST) as part of the 2013 International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies and Development (#ICTD2013) from 7-10 December in Capetown, South Africa.

Dr. Cogburn virtually presented “Accessible Cyberlearning for Persons with Disabilities in Southeast Asia: A Four Year Case Study of the Institute in Disability and Public Policy (IDPP) for the ASEAN Region,” which delved into the IDPP’s experiences in creating innovative, accessible cyberlearning environments to enable the creation of a cadre of geograhically-distributed disability policy leaders throughout the ASEAN region and around the world.

The workshop featured presentations from leading academics in accessible information and communication technologies, as well as assistive and adaptive technologies. Dr. Cogburn was joined by Ms. Kathleen Ludewig Omollo, International Program Officer, Office of Enabling Technologies, University of Michigan; Ms. Rebecca Matter, IDTR Program Director, Center for Technology and Disability Studies; and Mr. Joyojeet Pal, Assistant Professor of Information, School of Information at University of Michigan (UMSI). The panel was moderated by Dr. Ed Cutrell, Senior Research Manager, Technology for Emerging Markets group, Microsoft Research India.

Dr. Cogburn was a former assistant professor of information at UMSI and assistant professor of African studies in the Department for Afroamerican and African Studies at UM. UMSI is also the location where COTELCO was established in 1998, and where Dr. Cogburn first commenced the Global Graduate Seminar on Globalization and the Information Society, a cornerstone of COTELCO's prominent research in geographically-distributed cyberlearning and global virtual teams.
