IDPP Faculty Member Invited to Present at Blackboard World 2013
IDPP faculty member and Evaluation Committee Co-Chair Dr. Jennifer Ellis will be presenting a paper co-written with IDPP/COTELCO Executive Director Dr. Derrick Cogburn at Blackboard’s annual technology and development conference, Blackboard World 2013 (#Bbworld13), held between 7-12 July 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The presentation, “Accessible Cyberlearning,” will use the IDPP’s cyberinfrastructure design as a model for successful implementation of Universal Design for Learning principles to create a fully accessible virtual learning environment using Blackboard Learn and Collaborate.
This is the second consecutive year that Drs. Ellis and Cogburn have submitted a successful presentation proposal. Each submission is peer-reviewed, and only a select few are invited to participate in the conference’s presentation series. As a second-year participant, Dr. Ellis was also invited to join the Conference Development Committee in January 2013, an honor given to select conference participants each year.
Dr. Ellis was also chosen to lead an informal “Birds of a Feather” forum session entitled, "Teaching an Old Prof New Tricks: From the Chalkboard to Blackboard.” The theme of this informal session will address the current environment in many institutions that are strongly encouraging faculty members and departmental programs to move to online courses. This open forum is designed to assist educators and instructional designers to identify the top 10 basic skills and techniques needed to help faculty members transition from the chalkboard to blackboard (i.e. online teaching).
BbWorld is Blackboard’s largest conference of the year, attracting over 2,000 participants from across the globe. BbWorld 2013 will be directly preceded by two events: Pre-Conference (PreCon) workshops and the Blackboard Developers’ Conference (DevCon). PreCon workshops provide participants with the opportunity to receive hands-on training for all of Blackboard’s products and, in some cases, the chance to receive certifications to become Blackboard Certified Trainers. DevCon provides technical individuals from educational institutions with insight into how Blackboard’s platform can be implemented to meet institutional needs or integrate with existing campus systems.
