IDPP Hosts 2013 Annual Meeting from 9-17 Aug. at Mahidol University
The IDPP is proud to announce that its Third Annual Meeting (#idpp2013) took place from 9-17 August at Mahidol University near Bangkok, Thailand. This annual gathering of IDPP university and outreach partner institutions, prospective partners, and participants from disabled peoples’ organizations and NGOs across the ASEAN region and around the world offered a unique face-to-face opportunity for capacity building, strategic planning and networking. The Annual Meeting included an IDPP advisory board meeting on 13 August and a residency focused on capacity building for select disability rights advocates and professionals across the ASEAN region.
An IDPP Partnership Ceremony on 13 August also recognized the valuable contributions of existing university and outreach partners, as well as welcomed potential future partners into the IDPP network.
From 9-17 August, the IDPP hosted a series of capacity building events as part of its residency with participants from Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Philippines, and Vietnam. Members of the international IDPP faculty and disability and public policy experts from NGOs working in the ASEAN region delivered a number of expert lectures to participating disability rights advocates. Session topics included ASEAN political affairs; cross-cultural communication; research methods; the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; and disability policy and inclusive education in the ASEAN region.
Residency participants also visited, met and discussed current topics in the disability and public policy fields with international disability and public policy organizations, including IDPP partner the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
