IDPP Offers Disability Policy Module in LKY School Exec. Ed. Program

Dr. Derrick Cogburn lectures (photo)IDPP/COTELCO Executive Director Dr. Derrick Cogburn offered a disability policy module on Thursday, 18 July from 1:00-4:00pm Singapore time as part of the executive education program “Enhancing the Leadership Potential of Myanmar’s State Government Officials” organized by IDPP partner the Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore and supported by The Nippon Foundation. The two-part executive education program offers sessions to approximately 70 public officials from provinces across Myanmar.

The first week of the program was conducted from 1-5 July 2013 in Myanmar, while the second portion is conducted 15-19 July 2013 in Singapore.

In his presentation “Global and Regional Policy Frameworks to Support the Rights of Persons with Disabilities,” Dr. Cogburn provided an overview of the IDPP for the ASEAN Region; the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD); the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP)’s Incheon Strategy to “Make the Right Real” for Persons with Disabilities in Asia and the Pacific; and the Sixth Conference of States Parties to the CRPD (COSP-6). Dr. Cogburn and an IDPP delegation are currently attending COSP-6 while serving as official rapporteurs to the CRPD secretariat for a consecutive third year.

Other sessions in the LKY School of Public Policy executive education program include: Implementation Methods of Public Management Reforms; Good Governance; Regional Socio-Economic Development in ASEAN; and Human Resource Management Policies.
