IDPP Partners, Staff Advocate Disability Inclusion at Post-2015 Forum
IDPP Regional Coordinator Mr. Joni Yulianto will present alongside IDPP partners Dr. Irwanto, Founder and Director of the Center on Disability Studies at Universitas Indonesia and Dr. Ro’fah Mudzakir, Director and Co-Founder of the Center for Disability Studies and Services at State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga in Yogyakarta, Indonesia at the Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Forum and Outreach Session from 23-25 March 2013 in Bali, Indonesia.
They will present their jointly-written position paper Political Commitment on the Fulfillment and Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities while advocating for the mainstreaming of disability rights in the post-2015 Millennium Development Goal (MDG) framework. As a precursor to the Fourth United Nations High Level Panel of Eminent Persons (HLPEP) Meeting, the session presents a unique opportunity for international CSOs to add their voices as the Panel discusses the future of the MDGs.
The first day of the session - the CSO Pre-Consultative Forum - will provide representatives from over 150 international CSO and advocacy groups the opportunity to share ideas and formulate strategic positions. During this time, the IDPP-represented group will engage with other participants to share their paper and garner support for their proposal. In preparation of the session, the group has also organized an informal working discussion on the role of the disability sector in the post-2015 MDGs strategy on 22 March, the day before the beginning of the event.
The HLPEP Meeting is part of a series of international meetings organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in preparation for the creation of a new global development goal agreement after the MDG program comes to term in 2015.
