IDPP Presents at Disability Inclusion Workshop
IDPP Program Coordinator for Outreach and Capacity Building, Mr. Joni Yulianto, joined 10 universities from Yogyakarta and Central Java, Indonesia for the Workshop on Policy for Inclusion in Universities of Yogyakarta, held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on 25 June 2012.
Mr. Yulianto was invited to present to workshop participants an overview of the IDPP, its network of university and outreach partner institutions, and the ways in which the IDPP leverages its relationships with partners throughout the ASEAN region to provide support for the Master’s in Comparative and International Disability Policy (CIDP) program.
Mr. Yulianto also provided the group with some of the tangible learning methods and products that have derived from the IDPP's implementation of the world’s first virtual Master’s degree in Disability Policy.
The workshop, which was hosted by State Islamic University and Gadjah Mada University, was designed to bring together academic institutions throughout Indonesia to discuss issues related specifically to the culture and context of the specific region. By the end of the meeting, participants agreed that all of the universities will raise their commitment to becoming more inclusive of persons with disabilities.
Additionally, the meeting provided Mr. Yulianto an opportunity to network with some of the delegates from the participating universities, and discuss training for universal learning environments and the production of accessible materials that will equip universities with the necessary infrastructure to support persons with disabilities.
The workshop will be followed with an additional meeting aimed at building an action plan for how to help the universities transition into more inclusive institutions.
