Yutaka Osugi

Dr. Yutaka Osugi is a professor at the Tsukuba University of Technology, specializing in Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies. He has been conducting research on the compilation of a Japanese sign language corpus for both synchronic and diachronic analyses: a trial version of 30 sign language lexical items from the 49 prefectures in Japan, using maps and movies. His publications include A Learner's Dictionary of Japanese Sign Language (2010, Japanese Federation for the Deaf). Dr. Osugi has served as an expert on issues on hearing impairment in various capacities, including as a certified expert for the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), and as a Secretary-General for the Japanese Federation of the Deaf.
