The Nippon Foundation is a grantmaking philanthropic organization that supports myriad activities promoting the public good and general welfare of people both in Japan and overseas. One of its main goals is to improve the circumstances of those with disabilities in the Southeast Asia region. The Nippon Foundation is a strong proponent of the philosophy that empowering people with disabilities by providing them with tools, skills, and experience will prepare them to be self actualized. The foundation strongly believes that information technologies can provide those who are disadvantaged with the access to education, work, and society that they do not currently possess.

COTELCO: The Collaboration Laboratory is a social science research center in the School of International Service (SIS) at American University. COTELCO explores the socio-technical infrastructure required to support geographically-distributed collaboration and knowledge work, particularly between developed and developing countries. It is based upon universal design principles and accessibility.
