IDPP Program Associate Invited to WHO Workshop on TB Advocacy
IDPP Program Associate and alumna Ms. Eloisa “Louie” Zepeda-Teng represented the Philippines at the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Tuberculosis (TB) Advocacy Programme Design workshop co-hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease held from 22-26 September in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The workshop invited representatives from seven countries heavily impacted by the disease in the Western Pacific to share best practices and build capacity in several key areas, including civil society; national TB treatment and prevention programs; country coordinating mechanisms; and local advocacy programs.
The workshop also included a series of presentations by leading international figures in TB-related public policy and advocacy, including Salil Kumar, Consultant for International UNION Against TB and Lung Disease; Tahir Turk, Technical Advisor – Mass Media; and Dr. Cornelia Hennig of Stop TB of WPRO.
Among those participating in the event were former TB patients, who gave important insight on the value of local advocacy work. As a former TB patient and advocate for TB patient rights, Ms. Zepeda shared her life story in a filmed interview, which was chosen from a collection of other testimonials as a model for future public service announcements for the Stop TB Partnership.
